Chalkida

Known throughout Greece for the tidal phenomenon of changing the direction of the water every six hours gathers thousands of visitors who flock to the old sliding bridge Negroponte to observe this rare phenomenon. Next classic meeting point of locals and visitors is a landscaped pedestrian street that is full of life day and night thanks to the dozens of cafes and restaurants lined up along the waterfront. Impressions are gained by the Red House, the neoclassical building with 4 clay statues at the top and the City Hall with its beautiful architecture and wonderful balance of volumes. At the top of Kanithos hill dominates the Venetian fortress of Karabamba with the best view of the city and the entire Evian gulf.

Eretria

Eretria is a coastal town in Evia and the “gateway” of the island, as it can be reached by ferry from Oropos, Attica. Built in the place of the glorious ancient city-state, Eretria was a dominant maritime, commercial and agricultural power which established colonies in the Aegean region and in Southern Italy. Some sightseeings are: The impressive theater (5th century B.C), the temples of Daphnephoros Apollo, Dionysus, Dimitra and Isida, the “mosaic house” (370 B.C.) with mosaic floors dating back to 4th century B.C, Ditiki Pili or West Gate, which was the central gate of ancient Eretria and many more.

Artaki

Coming from Chalkida to northern Evia you will find yourself in Nea Artaki, a bustling town as well as those who want to end up in central Evia and those who want to visit northern Evia. Nea Artaki is the second largest city of Evia. Nea Artaki’s main beach may not be as popular with the locals for swimming but it is for the dozens of shops nearby and one can enjoy coffee, food, ouzo with incredible views.

Karistos

Karystos is a picturesque town and port, with many squares and a functional street planning which was designed by city planners of king Othonas. It is known from ancient times for its famous Karystos slabs, slate rocks of the area. The village is located 124 km SE of the town of Chalkida. You can pay a visit to the ancient marble quarries in Kylindroi after Myloi, the restored Venetian tower (Bourtzi) on the beach to the east side of the town, The ruins of a Venetian castle which is situated further from the small forest and the imposing Town Hall.

Edipsos Thermal Springs

A famous resort, which accommodates around 40.000 tourists during summer. The area is popular for its thermal spas which Aristotle and Plutarch used to visit. The curative characteristics of these springs help diseases like arthritis, while with spa-therapy women can treat gynecological diseases and men sexual dysfunction.

Limni

Limni is a small coastal town, beautiful all year long. Its architecture and town planning remind us of an island settlement. It’s a place where you can spend your whole day visiting ancient buildings, churches and lots of cafes and restaurants. Some of the sightseeings are the buildings of the Police Station and Public Financial Service designed by Chiler, The church of Virgin Mary’s Heavenly Birth in the entrance of the town, τhe church of Zoodochos Pigi and the Historical Archivehoused in the Town Hall.
